Snip and Rip!

Our May meeting was fun as usual! First the show and tell...

This quilt by Jackie had lots of Marcia Derse fabrics!

Cheryl showed a commission quilt she's been working on for St. Catherine's.

Laura made this lovely sunflower wall hanging.

Betty, as usual, was prolific! this cool bag...

...and awesome marshmallow wall hanging...

...And a big quilt!

From big to tiny -- Truda always has work in her hands.

Mary showed this piece with real shells on it...
Susan made this quilt top during our sew-in!

Candy showed this log cabin before her talk on color value.
Here are Jackie and Margaret showing examples from Candy's talk. Candy put these together with one block being from another value. Can you find the block in each sample?

Then the main event, which I have been referring to as Snip and Rip! It was fantastic and everyone who came participated! What happened was, everyone brought one yard of Kona cotton. Then there were a series of instructions to snip and rip the fabric and we all ended up with a different array of colors. Participants are to make something with them and bring it back in June or July. No pressure, just fun! Here are our colors!

Here are just some of the color arrays....

April meeting

Hi all! Sorry this blog post is late: I had some technical issues. But my plan is to do blog posts after every meeting, and hopefully more in between. If I missed any photos, please send them to me (RichmondMQG (at) gmail.com) and I'll post them here!

Our April meeting was a celebration of our second anniversary! We had a crowd...

And we had cake...

And a plethora of gifts! Thanks to Pam for calling rousing Quilt-O games!

And show and tell! Oh yes, we had show and tell! Note: These are in no particular order, except that they're more or less in the order that they uploaded. :-)

Mary showed the quilt she made which started from the rubbings she did in Ann's Paintstik demo...

Cheryl wore a dress she made from rayon batik...

Mary Jane showed more of her beautiful collage work. She'll be doing a program for us soon!

Theresa showed her wonderful giraffe quilt....

And some of her bags...

Alma's awesome sampler is in very modern colors...

Becky told everyone about the fun silk-screen class that some members took at Artistic Artifacts...

Betty's quilt.... I love the lettering!

Catherine had some great tells about upcoming publications! We're so excited for her!

 Margaret has been busy....

And so has Sue!

Melissa participated in some exchanges with worldwide participants...

And Trish had some unique Sunbonnet Sue blocks.... She'll be doing a program for us in the fall based on her collaged trees!

We have such talent in this group! Our next meeting is coming up May 17th. If you haven't been to our meetings, please feel free to stop by!

Under new management!

Yes, we've been a little lax in our blog posts, but we're going to do our best to change that up in the next year! Stay tuned!

In the meantime, check out our fairly updated website at www.rmqg.net.

Studio School, 2nd floor
$165 (VMFA members $145) | Enrollment limit: 8

This course is designed for both the novice who wants to learn how to make a quilt and the experienced quilter who wants to break away from using patterns to design their own innovative pieces. Covering the basics of quilt construction, this class focuses on personal expression and contemporary design with participants creating a small one-of-a-kind quilted wall hanging. Most work is done on the sewing machine (students may bring their own portable sewing machine, but it is not required). No quilting experience necessary.

Just in case anyone is interested!
